Son Volt, the alt-country project of Jay Farrar, will release their eighth LP, 'Notes of Blue,' next year.

Alt-country stalwarts Son Volt will release their eighth studio album, Notes of Blue, February 17th via Thirty Tigers.

The LP marks the group’s first since 2013 and features 10 blues-inspired tracks that take their cues from left field influences such as Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake. The group’s last LP, Honky Tonk, was more Bakersfield-inspired, drawing from Buck Owens, Wynn Stewart and pedal steel player Ralph Mooney.

Notes of Blue will be available to pre-order via the Son Volt website November 29th. That same day, the group will announce upcoming live dates in support of the album, while tickets are scheduled to go on sale December 2nd. Son Volt is currently scheduled to play the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California next April.

The latest Son Volt touring lineup will feature founder Jay Farrar with Andrew Duplantis, Jacob Edwards, Chris Frame and Mark Spencer. Farrar formed the group in 1994 after the breakup of Uncle Tupelo, a trio that also featured Jeff Tweedy, who went on to form Wilco.
