See Yonder Mountain String Band Juxtapose Decay, Beauty in ‘Bad Taste’

Nimble roots group will release the new album ‘Love. Ain’t Love’ on June 23rd

Yonder Mountain String Band turns 20 years old next year. The bandmates are kicking off the celebration six months early with the release of this summer’s Love. Ain’t Love, an album rooted in modern bluegrass and punctuated by genre-jumping excursions into world music, reggae and all points in between.

On “Bad Taste,” the quintet even flirts with FM-worthy pop/rock. The song began as a half-finished voice memo on Adam Aijala’s iPhone, which he later expanded into a proper song with help from co-founder Dave Johnston.

“I love the words because there are two perspectives,” says Aijala. “One voice describes bad luck and sour grapes, while the other is all too happy to use whatever power is at hand. Despite our intentions, we also like to let the listener imagine their own meanings, as well.”

Shot in Telluride, Colorado, the song’s music video kicks off with performance footage from a bombed-out building in the town square. Later, the clip finds the band heading to Bridal Veil Falls, the 365-foot waterfall that overlooks the mountain town.

Love. Ain’t Love will be released June 23rd. Watch the video for “Bad Taste” above.
