Alabama siblings Laura and Lydia Rogers to release Brandi Carlile-produced new album ‘You Don’t Own Me Anymore’ on June 9th

The Secret Sisters have released their first single and video in more than three years, the haunting primitive country track “Tennessee River Runs Low.” It precedes the group’s New West Records debut You Don’t Own Me Anymore, out June 9th.

After a ghostly church choir intro, “Tennessee River” settles into a shuffle with cracking snare, rambling banjo, and Laura and Lydia Rogers’ mournful harmonies. The titular waterway serves as a metaphor for strong women of the South: deep, with secrets to tell and others to hide away.

Filmed in the town of Seale, Alabama, at artist Butch Anthony’s Museum of Wonder, the video was conceptualized by Lydia’s husband and shows the mentorship of a young girl by an older artist, played by Anthony.

The Secret Sisters came to the national spotlight in 2010 with their self-titled debut, which they followed with 2014’s Put Your Needle Down. But despite critical acclaim and dates in support of Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and Paul Simon, the group parted ways with their label shortly after their sophomore release. They signed with New West in Nashville in January 2017.

You Don’t Own Me Anymore was produced by folk singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and recorded at Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, Washington, from February to August 2016.

Rogers sisters embark on a coast-to-coast tour beginning April 29th in
Huntsville, Alabama.
