Trisha Yearwood stopped by Live With Kelly and Michael this week to perform her soaring cover of Lifehouse’s “Broken” — this time as herself, and not as Mary, mother of Jesus.
“Broken” is one of several tunes the vocal powerhouse sang on The Passion, a live television event that told the story of the last hours before Jesus Christ’s death. Filmed on several stages in New Orleans, the broadcast also saw Yearwood performing Jason Mraz’s “I Won’t Give Up,” Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love,” Jewel’s “Hands” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from the Broadway musical, Carousel. Tyler Perry hosted and narrated the March 20th special, with Jencarlos Canela as Jesus, Seal as Pontius Pilate and Chris Daughtry playing Judas.
“It was really cool to me how everybody’s songs fit,” Yearwood told NBC’s Today show. “When you hear them on their own, you may think, ‘I don’t know about that.’ But when they’re woven into the story, they all work.”
Ratings for The Passion were strong, with more than seven million viewers. Its soundtrack hit stores last week.
