Trace Adkins was in Hollywood on Wednesday, June 14th for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Louisiana native played two songs from his latest record, Something’s Going On, including the most recent single, “Watered Down,” and the album’s title track. The latter tune features Adkins reaching down low in his storied range for the verses.
“[Buck Owens] sat me down and said, ‘Trace, that low note you can hit, you need to do that in every song that you record, because that’s really all you got going for you,'” Adkins told Rolling Stone Country in March, before the album’s release. “He was as serious as a heart attack. I said, ‘Ok, Buck, I’ll keep that in mind.'”
“Something’s Going On” tells the story of a mature relationship where the protagonist notices a change in his longtime partner. “I’m going to get down to the bottom of this / Turn down the lights and spend the whole night finding out all I should,“ he sings.
Adkins will spend his summer in the Midwest headlining gigs across a number a states before heading to the West and California in late July. Watch his Kimmel performance of “Watered Down” below.
