See Tim McGraw, Faith Hill Sing Aretha Franklin, George Michael Duet

Couple kicks off their Soul2Soul Tour with joyful rendition of 1986 hit “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)”

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw take that “soul” part of their Soul2Soul Tour seriously, opening shows on this current incarnation of the tour with the 1986 Aretha Franklin and George Michael duet “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).” Watch the husband-and-wife duo perform that classic tune at their April 21st stop in Charleston, South Carolina in the above video.

Hill and McGraw begin their set bathed in individual spotlights on opposite sides of the stage, taking the song’s message of reconciliation pretty literally. Hill especially gets to show off her chops on the soulful number, while McGraw holds his own channeling the late Michael.

Franklin and Michael originally made the song famous as part of her 1986 album Aretha. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100, and went on to win the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for the pair in 1988.

Other highlights of the Soul2Soul set include 1997’s “It’s Your Love,” new song “Break First,” and solo performances from each artist, like Hill’s smash “Breathe” and McGraw’s recent award-winner “Humble and Kind.”

The Soul2Soul Tour continues April 27th in St. Louis, Missouri with opener Seth Ennis, and dates extending through the end of October. McGraw and Hill recently released “Speak to a Girl,” the first single from a forthcoming album of duets.
