Appearing with wife Lauren and newly adopted daughter Willa Gray, Thomas Rhett visited NBC’s Today on Friday, where he answered questions on fatherhood and played a handful of his most popular songs, including his current single “Craving You.”
“You live your life so long just caring for yourself or caring for one other person and then you bring a child into it, and it’s a whole different ball game,” Rhett told Today anchor Hoda Kotb. “For us, we just try to soak it in and really pay attention and watch her grow up and try to remember all the little subtleties.”
Rhett performed two hits from his 2016 Platinum record Tangled Up, including “T-Shirt,” “Die a Happy Man” and “Star of the Show,” as well as the Maren Morris duet “Craving You,” without Morris’ help. The latter song is the first off his upcoming record, which Rhett spoke about with Rolling Stone Country in March.
“We dabbled with more ‘Crash and Burn’-y songs on this one,” he told RSC, referencing the funky Tangled Up Number One track. “And there’s a few songs with just straight-up Grease soundtrack kind of vibes.”
On Today, Rhett said that while his new record will come out in 2017, though he didn’t yet have a date or a title.
“We went in and cut a bunch of songs and we’re very excited about how we’re going to release them,” he said. “I’ve got a couple songs about life changing and lots of songs about Lauren.”
