See Thomas Rhett’s Poignant ‘Marry Me’ Video

Latest single from Rhett’s ‘Life Changes’ album gets a video with an uplifting twist

Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes LP is full of stories both heartwarming and heartbreaking, but few are as bittersweet as the one told in “Marry Me.” With a lyrical hook that goes “Yeah, she wanna get married / But she don’t wanna marry me,” it’s the kind of song that pairs well with the uplifting twist in its new video.

Directed by TK McKamy, “Marry Me” chronicles the what-might-have-been romance of a man named Sam and his childhood crush, starting with him peaking through her windows when they’re little kids. The video makes several references to lyrics from the song, including the line about “the night when I almost kissed her (which takes place here the night of a high school football game) and Sam drinking whiskey at her wedding to numb the pain as she prepares to marry another man. But while there’s no fairytale ending in “Marry Me,” McKamy’s version has its own surprise ending.

Life Changes went to Number One on the Billboard 200 chart and is nominated for Best Country Album at the 2018 Grammy awards. “Marry Me” was released as its third single in September. Rhett will launch his headlining Life Changes Tour next spring.
