Since releasing their self-titled debut album six years ago, the Secret Sisters, the sibling duo of Laura and Lydia Rogers, have stood out for their brand of old-school country and ethereal harmonies. Their last release, 2014’s Put Your Need Down, was one of the best albums of that year, if lamentably underheard.
Currently working on a new album, produced by Brandi Carlile and funded via a PledgeMusic campaign, the Secret Sisters will set sail on two cruises in 2017: the Americana-heavy Cayamo Cruise in February and the second annual Outlaw Country Cruise in March. To help promote the Outlaw Country Cruise, which features Blackberry Smoke, the Mavericks, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Shooter Jennings, among others, the Sisters visited the offices of Sixthman, the company that organizes the music cruises, for an intimate performance.
In this video premiere, the Rogers siblings cover “Make the World Go Away,” the Hank Cochran classic covered by artists from Ray Price to the Osmonds, but most associated with Eddy Arnold. In the hands of the Sisters, the song’s timeless quality is undeniable, as they linger over the heart-wrenching lyrics: “Do you remember when you loved me / before the world took me astray.”
Tickets for the second annual Outlaw Country Cruise are currently on sale.
