Given that they named themselves after a popular American automobile company, the Cadillac Three ought to feel right at home playing in a garage. Sure enough, in the latest installment of the Pennzoil Garage Sessions, the Nashville Southern rockers not only have fit in with their surroundings but have plenty of car-related anecdotes to share as they stop by to play their new song “Dang If We Didn’t.”
“I always had a thing for Cadillacs growing up,” says singer and guitarist Jaren Johnston in the video, recalling how the band had gotten its start playing a garage not unlike the one that the video was shot in. “I can remember these songwriters [in Nashville], as soon as they had their first hit, they’d all go out and buy a black Cadillac. And that was just the coolest thing to me.”
The Cadillac Three were, of course, originally the Cadillac Black, before they signed to Big Machine Records. Last year the trio released their first LP under the Cadillac Three banner, Bury Me in My Boots, but “Dang If We Didn’t” will appear on its soon-to-be-released follow-up, Legacy. “Dang If We Didn’t” is a perfect song to be played in a garage, a crunchy, Blood Mary-worthy stumble through piecing together a night of drinking Bud Lights, shooting pool, and making a mistake or three.
Legacy arrives via Big Machine Records August 25th. The Cadillac Three play Country Fest in Wisconsin this weekend, June 23rd and 24th.
