See Taylor Swift Producer Nathan Chapman’s Grand Ole Opry Debut
Thanks to his work on all five of Taylor Swift’s studio albums, Nathan Chapman has distinguished himself as one of the most successful record producers of the past decade. A 2010 double Grammy winner for producing Swift’s Fearless, which won Album and Country Album of the Year, Chapman has also helmed recordings by Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert (the Number One hit, “We Were Us”), the Band Perry, Shania Twain, Lady Antebellum, Lionel Richie and more.
As a songwriter, he recently topped the country charts with the Darius Rucker cut, “Homegrown Honey,” and has written several hits for others, including Lauren Alaina (“Like My Mother Does”), Cassadee Pope (“11”) and acclaimed country newcomer Mickey Guyton, for whom Chapman co-penned “Better Than You Left Me.”
Beyond those impressive credits, Chapman is a multi-instrumentalist and is now putting his talents as a solo artist toward the release of Revival, his first album as an artist in nearly 20 years. The LP features songs co-written by Chapman with Ashley Monroe, Hillary Lindsey, Leslie Satcher, Lori McKenna, Tyler Hilton, Chantal Kreviazuk, actress Mary Steenburgen, and his wife, Stephanie Chapman, among others.
One of Revival‘s standouts is the toe-tapping “Get Me to My Baby Tonight,” a rockabilly-tinged rave-up that’s bound to inspire some top-down driving – and more than a few speeding tickets – this summer. Chapman premiered the song during his debut performance on the Grand Ole Opry recently, barreling through the tune with a fervor that would make Jerry Lee Lewis proud.
The bulk of the tunes on Revival are delightfully left-of center to the mainstream country hits he has achieved, many delivered by Chapman with a world-weary vocal quality that makes them instantly memorable. The LP’s moods and melodies swing from the heartbreak of the sad and beautiful “I Broke the World,” to the guitar-heavy assault of the “The Devil’s House” and the island rhythms of the mournful “Lady Loneliness.” And, as usual, Chapman is also bound to inspire more than a few artists and producers to mine the record for songs to cover.
Currently available for purchase exclusively at Chapman’s website, Revival is scheduled for wider release later this fall.
