See Soulful Americana Duo Johnnyswim Play Rhythmic ‘Get You Down’

Released today, ‘Live at Rockwood Music Hall’ captures the band during two sold-out performances

When Johnnyswim headlined Rockwood Music Hall last July, it felt less like a regular gig and more like a victory lap for two singers who’ve built their careers on the road, one harmony-heavy song at a time. Released today, JOHNNYSWIM: Live at Rockwood Music Hall captures a pair of sold-out performances at the New York City club, rolling them into a tracklist that shines a light not only on the folk-pop duo, but the fans who’ve supported them for years.

“We like to say that we’ve developed as a band by leaving ‘blood in the streets,'” says Amanda Sudano-Ramirez, the daughter of late Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Donna Summer, who shares lead duties with husband and bandmate Abner Ramirez. “This record is truly a snapshot of who we are right now, who we have become over the last few years of touring and what we hope to remember of this journey so far. Releasing this live album is like inviting you into our living room. We’re proud to invite folks into our journey and hope they’ll continue to join along.”

Above, the two lead their four-piece band through a stomping version of “Don’t Let It Get You Down,” delivered with help from a particularly interactive audience. The stage is small, but the sound is big, with a cappella sections giving way to flurries of guitar strums and cymbal crashes.

Johnnyswim are currently on the road. The band will play a string of shows in Texas near the end of the month.
