“Get ready for a new chapter in the greatest cinematic franchise of all time!” So begins the trailer for Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens, which finds a batch of flying sharks descending upon a theme park in Las Vegas.
Following the trend of its three predecessors, the horror-comedy film is stocked with cameos from B-list actors, reality-TV stars, hair-metal frontmen, Hollywood cult icons, comedians, Vegas personalities and sports stars. Representing the world of country music — a genre that’s reared its head several times throughout the film series, with Billy Ray Cyrus playing a small role in 2014’s Sharknado 2: The Second One — is Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus, who plays the manager of the Shark World Hotel.
DeMarcus pops up during the trailer, gazing into the shark-infested sky and muttering, “Oh my god,” at the 0:23 mark. Although Sharknado 4, which premiers on the Syfy channel this Sunday evening (July 31st), isn’t expected to receive a proper theatrical release, it’ll still be one of nearly a half-dozen acting appearances by DeMarcus, whose film and TV credits include Yes Dear, Hannah Montana: The Movie, CSI and ABC’s Nashville.
Rascal Flatts recently announced that they’re working on their first-ever Christmas album, a collection of holiday staples. They also have re-recorded their inspirational hit “My Wish,” the unofficial theme song of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in honor of the 10th anniversary of ESPN’s series of the same name.
