After the celebration of couplehood that was “We Do Us,” Ryan Hurd digs into the darker regions of romance for his new single and video “City Girl.” Disheveled and alone, the singer navigates urban sidewalks as twilight turns to night, pining for – or perhaps regretting – the woman who will undoubtedly break his heart by viewing him only as a one-night stand.
Directed by Justin Key, it’s a particularly moody video for a country artist. But Hurd isn’t a typical “country” singer. The production of “City Girl” is full of stylish touches and moves along with a woozy gait, before reaching its slow-burning chorus.
Hurd, already a successful songwriter with Blake Shelton’s Number One “Lonely Tonight” to his credit, is quickly establishing himself as a solo artist. He recently wrapped up a tour with Chase Rice and will open select shows for Maren Morris – his girlfriend – on her upcoming headlining Hero Tour.
