See Randy Rogers Band’s Warm ‘San Antone’ Video

Keith Gattis-penned song from the band’s ‘Nothing Shines Like Neon’ plays up the comforts of home

Randy Rogers Band’s song “San Antone” from the album Nothing Shines Like Neon captures the weary homesickness felt by musicians who mostly live on the road, as well as what a familiar place like titular Texas city represents. Written by Keith Gattis, it’s a heartfelt tribute to the region where the band got its start.

In the new video for “San Antone,” Rogers and his band go to the source of the song’s inspiration. Before playing to a packed house, the guys visit local attractions like Alamo and the River Walk as well as enjoy a few beers (Shiner brand, naturally). “San Antone, San Antone, I’ve been gone for way too long,” Rogers sighs, while shots of local hotels, bars and streets flicker past.

As with “San Antone,” the rest of Nothing Shines Like Neon found Randy Rogers Band going in a deliberately twangy direction — a slight departure from some of the more rock-influenced material they’ve done in recent years.

“I have been trying to convince our band to put out a stone-cold country record for years and years,” Rogers tells Rolling Stone Country. “I grew up listening to a lot of early Nineties country that doesn’t sound like anything on the radio these days. The record is a country album because we wanted it to be.”

This weekend Randy Rogers Band will be out and away from Texas, with tour stops planned in Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri.
