See Pentatonix, Reba McEntire’s Reggae-Infused ‘Winter Wonderland’

Vocal group travels to Nashville to sing with the country queen for their Christmas special

Although they’ve only been making records together since 2012, a cappella quintet Pentatonix already have two full-length Christmas albums (and a holiday EP) to their credit. The country-music-friendly Grammy winners also starred this week in their first Christmas special on NBC, with special guests Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson and Dolly Parton.

In a segment from their festive special, the group is on a road trip to Music City, ending up at the legendary Elliston Place Soda Shop where they just happen to be served a pie by McEntire. Following an awkwardly scripted exchange about tipping percentages, the superstar performer offers the singers advice on how to perfect their Christmas special by finding the right song. In this case, the song happens to be an island-inspired update of “Winter Wonderland,” with Reba’s lead vocal backed by the group’s rhythmic, reggae-infused vocal instrumentation.

Pentatonix previously included “Winter Wonderland” in a medley with Bobby McFerrin’s ubiquitous “Don’t Worry Be Happy” on their 2014 LP, That’s Christmas to Me. Recently, they appeared on The Voice with Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton, performing an a cappella version of “Jolene.”
