See Old Dominion’s Skate-Friendly ‘Snapback’ Video

Pro skateboarder Leticia Bufoni stars in the band’s lively new clip

Old Dominion probably didn’t have professional skateboarder Leticia Bufoni in mind when they wrote their current single “Snapback,” but she’s probably a pretty excellent representation nonetheless.

The 22-year-old X Games gold medalist plays a starring role in the “Snapback” video, which was filmed — appropriately — around skate-friendly venues. Titular hat on backward, Bufoni ollies and grinds across the urban landscape like the coolest girl in the world while the band plays at the bottom of an empty swimming pool. The action moves to a packed house party, where Bufoni sings with the band and dances with friends.

Old Dominion members Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi and Trevor Rosen co-wrote the song, which initially confused some people — at least the ones over a certain age — about what a snapback actually was.

“Mostly our fans’ parents ask us what snapbacks are,” admits Ramsey, laughing.

“We’re educating the public, see,” adds Rosen.

The term has gained some cultural currency over the last couple years and Ramsey wrote it down, thinking it might make a decent song title at some point.

“It’s just one of those things that’s coming around in pop culture,” says Ramsey. “It’s just a new name for a hat with an adjustable snap back.”

“All of a sudden it’s on stickers everywhere,” adds Rosen.

“It seemed like a cool word,” reiterates Ramsey.

The band is currently nominated for two ACM Awards, including Vocal Group of the Year. They’re wrapping up a series of headlining club dates before serving as the opening act for Kenny Chesney’s stadium dates beginning in May.
