See Old Dominion’s Live Video for Fan Favorite ‘Said Nobody’

With their first album Meat and Candy coming this Friday, November 6th, Nashville’s band of songwriters Old Dominion are racing to release day with a Number One single under their belt. This week, the group’s debut single “Break Up With Him” topped the Billboard Country Airplay Chart.

Old Dominion filmed an elaborate video inspired by Back to the Future for the song — complete with a time-traveling DeLorean — but for the Meat and Candy standout “Said Nobody,” the band chose the concert stage over the soundstage. Taped earlier this summer at Boston’s Royale club, a few days before their opening slot for Kenny Chesney at Gillette Stadium, the video captures singer Matthew Ramsey and bandmates Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers and Geoff Sprung on a more intimate stage than the home of the New England Patriots. 

But while the video intersperses candid footage of the group on the streets of Boston, it’s the song itself that captivates, giving the overused bit of slang — “said nobody” — new life with a catchy chorus. Bassist Sprung says the tune was literally hatched on the road.

“We just found some video footage of us writing that song in the van,” he recalls. “Brad is driving and I’m sitting in the passenger side and Trevor is in between us with a guitar.” 

Ramsey says that such close quarters of the touring life are responsible for Old Dominion’s chemistry: “When we come on the radio, people will go, ‘That’s Old Dominion,’ ’cause it’s a sound that can only be made by whatever the five of us make together.”

Old Dominion is currently on tour, supporting the release of Meat and Candy with a string of shows in Alabama this week. They’ll play a sold-out gig at Joe’s on Weed in Chicago on November 19th.
