See Miranda Lambert’s Playful Cover of the Band’s ‘Ophelia’

Also watch the country hitmaker perform her “really honest,” gutsy new single, “Vice”

The normally unflappable Miranda Lambert broke down in tears twice during her Chicago-area tour stop over the weekend, telling the audience she was having a rough night. During “Over You,” a song she penned with ex-husband Blake Shelton about the death of his brother, the choked-up singer held the microphone down at her knees while letting the audience take over the lyrics. And it was an all-out waterworks fest during “The House That Built Me,” her Grammy-winning tearjerker.

“I’ve felt so at home, just being my normal self tonight — which is not always normal,” Lambert told the audience.

But the Texas spitfire’s show at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre was, of course, not without its plethora of sass. Strutting across the stage in a short denim skirt and black tank top, Lambert belted the Band’s “Ophelia,” a classic rock song eight years older than she. The song got off to a rocky start, with the singer laughing and asking her band to start over, apologizing to the crowd for not testing it out first during soundcheck. But once she got into her groove, Lambert — who ditched her guitar for a tambourine — gave the song country swagger and a whole lot of energy.

The 32-year-old country star also covered Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Willin'” in the Windy City stop of her Keeper of the Flame tour, throwing a few more surprises into the set-list of her own future classics. And for only the second time ever live in concert, she sang her brand-new single, “Vice.” “I wrote it from a really honest place, a really uncomfortable place,” she told fans before belting the gutsy tune about escapism. Watch Lambert sing “Vice” below.
