“Are we fools for rushing in?” Miranda Lambert sings in “Pushin’ Time,” a ballad about new starts and newer love. First released on last month’s double-disc chart topper The Weight of These Wings, the song made its live debut just before Christmas, when Lambert included the tune during a headlining appearance on the CBS special A Home for the Holidays.
Co-written with Foy Vance and frequent collaborator Natalie Hemby, “Pushin’ Time” was recorded in Nashville with help from Lambert’s boyfriend, soul singer Anderson East, who lends his harmony vocals to the studio version of the track. In the video above, though (at the 4:00 mark), Lambert sings the song with just acoustic and steel guitar, tossing “Pushin’ Time” into a setlist that includes another Weight of These Wings track, “Keeper of the Flame,” as well as the Grammy-winning “The House That Built Me.”
Now in its eighteenth year, the annual Home for the Holidays broadcast aims to increase the number of adoptions in American’s foster care system, with artists like Train, Rascal Flatts and Melissa Etheridge all appearing as musical guests in recent years.
