See Miranda Lambert, Anderson East Sing a Mariah Carey Classic
While being a traveling musician often forces couples apart on anniversaries or holidays, Miranda Lambert and Anderson East seem to be making the most of their time together.
During East’s Valentine’s Day show at the Pearl Street Nightclub in Northampton, Massachusetts, Lambert came on stage to give concertgoers an unforgettable collaborative performance. The song was Mariah Carey’s 1995 Number One hit “Always Be My Baby,” which East has been performing in his sets of late.
Stripping the tune down to a muscular bass/drums/keys groove, Anderson handles Carey’s lead parts with his uniquely gruff howl, while Lambert and Gwen Sebastian chime in on the Motown-inspired choruses. Building himself up to a climactic gospel fervor, East lets the crowd sing once the tune modulates to a higher key.
Alabama native East is currently on a solo tour supporting his 2015 album Delilah and will join up with Chris Stapleton beginning in April. Both he and Lambert have songs featured on producer Dave Cobb’s forthcoming concept album Southern Family.
