See Mickey Guyton’s Spunky ‘Heartbreak Song’ on ‘Today’
Mickey Guyton may have crafted “Heartbreak Song” to address the ex-boyfriend who’s so vain that he thought her first single “Better Than You Left Me” was about him, and this morning she took that sonic rebuttal to the national stage with a performance on the Today show. Guyton released the syncopated pop-country confection this past summer as a taste from her forthcoming debut album, and this morning’s rendition showcased how the native Texan is just as adept at upbeat anthems as booming ballads.
As Today hosts Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb pointed out, Guyton rose to fame with a performance at the White House in 2011, singing to President and Michelle Obama. “It was probably one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life,” Guyton said. “I was out in D.C. for like four days, and I didn’t eat four of those four days. I was a nervous wreck.”
Guyton will play select dates this fall before heading back to Nashville for the CMA Awards November 2nd.
