See Mickey Guyton’s Downcast Cover of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’
Mickey Guyton recently released a soulful rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” on YouTube, transforming Houston’s uptempo 1987 hit into a haunting soul ballad with a stripped-down, piano arrangement.
Guyton’s version highlights and accentuates the sadness and loneliness behind Houston’s dance-pop smash. “This song has been a girl’s night anthem for me over the years,” Guyton said in a statement released with the song. “So I wanted to put my own spin on it.”
The cover is the latest installment in Guyton’s long-running Life and Lyrics YouTube series, in which the Texas native gives behind-the-scenes peeks into her life on the road, shares stories behind her songs, and covers some of her favorite artists, including Beyonce and Whitney Houston.
Last week, Mickey Guyton’s released the video for her latest single, “Heartbreak Song,” which cracked the Top 50 on the Country Airplay chart in October.
