See Marty Stuart’s Serene, Beachside ‘Wait for the Morning’ Video

Singer and band the Fabulous Superlatives perform ‘Way Out West’ track in the mouth of a cave as waves crash nearby

Marty Stuart’s latest album Way Out West was inspired largely by the landscape and culture of the American west, so it’s only fitting that he and his Fabulous Superlatives took to a beachside cave to perform a stirring acoustic rendition of album track “Wait for the Morning.”

The sounds of two acoustic guitars and three-part vocal harmonies are made all the more intimate by the crashing of nearby waves, as Stuart and three of his bandmates perform just inside the mouth of a cave. The arrangement is faithful to the studio version, with its ethereal, serpentine electric guitar solo replicated by Stuart on his acoustic instrument.

Way Out West came out earlier this month. Stuart worked on the project with producer Mike Campbell, best known as guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The pair drew on a number of Stuart’s fascination with California and the West – including Bakersfield country, spaghetti Westerns and the psychedelic mythology of Joshua Tree National Park – for the cinematic collection, which was recorded at Campbell’s SoCal Studios and at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.

Stuart was recently announced as one of the performers at the 2017 Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival lineup, and he’ll be on tour through fall.
