To the casual visitor, present-day Nashville might appear to be the land of gleaming high-rise condos and sprawling country-bar-slash-ultra-lounges. Singer Margo Price knows there is far more to the city, and her new video for “Hurtin’ (On the Bottle)” recalls a grimier Nashville before all the “It City” hubbub turned it into a developer’s paradise.
Shot in local haunts like Fran’s Eastside Tavern, the 5 Spot, Twin Kegs and Betty’s Bar & Grill, the clip follows Price and her mates through a night of debauchery — presumably to shake off the nasty breakup referenced in the song (which was co-written by Caitlin Rose). Along the way they shotgun PBR, smoke a joint in someone’s backseat and witness a crazy parking lot brawl. Those candid scenes of hell raising are interspersed with shots of Price and her band performing the tune and throwing some seriously badass Tanya Tucker attitude.
Price’s forthcoming album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis and mixed down the road at equally legendary Ardent Studios. Jack White’s Nashville-based Third Man Records will release the collection on March 26th.
