See Maren Morris’ Whimsical ’80s Mercedes’ Video
Maren Morris’ brand-new “80’s Mercedes” video brings the song’s same flirty vibe to the small screen. The upbeat, relentlessly catchy tune is the second single from the Texas native’s critically-acclaimed debut album, Hero.
The Eighties-inspired video begins with a literal rendering of the song’s premise, with Morris driving a vintage Mercedes convertible down a palm tree-lined highway. But during the song’s dream sequence chorus, the video takes a turn towards the fantastic, with Morris and friends dancing in the backseat of her convertible as the car drives through a neon-lit cityscape.
“I’ve found every time I think something is stupid or overreaching or so silly, [it] is usually the right idea,” the singer told Rolling Stone Country earlier this summer. “Because that came out of a part of your brain that was being unhinged.”
The 26-year-old singer’s latest single is one of several genre-bending, pop-leaning originals on her debut album. It’s a favorite of her tour boss, Keith Urban, who covered “80’s Mercedes” this week in a viral video. In turn, Morris posted a cover of Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Morris will continue her extensive North American tour with Urban through November.
