Luke Bryan and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild went “shot for shot” in Nashville’s glitzy Schermerhorn Symphony Center during CMT’s Artists of the Year special this week, performing the boozy “Home Alone Tonight” as a toast to Bryan – one of the show’s five honorees.
Standing front and center as their country peers sipped on wine and champagne, the two stars made an interesting pair – visually and vocally. Delivering their chart-topping duet with barely a foot of space between them, Bryan ditched the ball cap and tight jeans for a sleek ensemble of gray slacks and a fitted black button-up, while Fairchild rocked a pair sparkling bell bottom chandelier pants. Likewise, Bryan’s voice is so distinct that it can sometimes seem reluctant to blend, but the combo finished strong on their tune about drunkenly hooking up to extract revenge on their exes. (But this story ends with a friendly hug, not a hotel room.)
The 2016 Artists of the Year show also honored Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett alongside Bryan as the biggest country artists of the past 12 months. Kelsea Ballerini was named Breakout Artist of the Year, while Shania Twain was given the Artist of a Lifetime award.
