See Lucinda Williams’ Raw ‘Ghosts of Highway 20’ on ‘Transmissions’

Williams gives a haunting performance of title track from her latest album on new live-music series

Lucinda Williams is getting ready to release her latest album The Ghosts of Highway 20 later this week, and has populated the LP with characters inspired by the 190-mile stretch of I-20 that runs across the northern part of her home state Louisiana. The singer-songwriter’s 12th studio effort, Ghosts is the follow-up to Williams’ 2014 double LP Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone, which was named Album of the Year at the 2015 Americana Music Association’s Honors and Awards ceremony last September. In addition to 12 original tunes, Ghosts includes a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Factory” and a tune with lyrics from folk legend Woody Guthrie set to music by Williams.

A raw, haunting performance of The Ghosts of Highway 20‘s powerful title track highlights Williams’ appearance on Transmissions, a new live music and interview series hosted by radio personality Nic Harcourt. The bimonthly web series, featuring intimate live performances, launches today, February 2nd, with a pair of episodes.

Along with Williams, the series’ debut features alternative Latino band Chicano Batman. Transmissions is a production of WorldArts, an interactive network providing musicians a platform to engage with fans, peers and industry professionals. Series episodes will be available at Future Transmissions episodes will feature Silversun Pickups, Berlin and Freedom Fry. The above performance by Williams was captured live on the WorldArts stage in Culver City, California.

Williams launches her upcoming tour in support of the new LP on March 4th in Los Angeles. The Ghosts of Highway 20 will be in stores and at online retailers Friday, February 5th.
