See Little Big Town’s Joyful ‘Happy People’ Video
Warning: Cuteness overload.
In the video for Little Big Town’s feel-good anthem “Happy People,” youngsters and those young at heart pose and frolic in front of a grey wall, beaming good vibrations to the world in the sweetest clip to surface this year.
The delightfully low-key video needs no bells or whistles to get its point across: people (and even some adorable pups) of all ages, sizes, races and genders deserve to be happy and accepted. Their adorable grins are infectious, and similar to seeing someone else yawn, it’s impossible to watch the smiles and laughs and not smile yourself.
“Happy people don’t cheat/happy people don’t lie/they don’t judge or hold a grudge/don’t criticize,” LBT’s Karen Fairchild admonishes before singing “here’s to whatever puts a smile on your face/whatever makes you happy, people.”
It’s tempting to dismiss “Happy People” as a little ditty given the bouncy beat, but songwriters Lori McKenna and Hailey Whitters have injected real pearls of wisdom into the lyrics including “You ain’t ever gonna be it/by takin’ someone else’s away” and “Happy people don’t fail/happy people just learn/don’t think that we’re above the push and shove/they just wait their turn.”
“Happy People” is the second single from LBT’s latest studio album The Breaker, which was produced by Jay Joyce and debuted at Number One on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart earlier this year.
“We’re always pushing to be progressive, so there’s some cool sounds on there,” LBT’s Phillip Sweet told Rolling Stone Country about the making of The Breaker. “It has that soul and spirit that we always try to find with Jay. Technical performances aren’t what he’s looking for – he’s looking to capture a feeling.”
Little Big Town continues its year-long residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium May 19th and 20th.
