See Langhorne Slim and Jill Andrews’ Trippy ‘Sea of Love’ Video

Animated clip features over 40 hand-cut puppets, drawn a bit like Shel Silverstein characters

Frenetic folk visionary Langhorne Slim and empyreal vocalist Jill Andrews of the everybodyfields have released a thought-provoking, artful clip for their duet, “Sea of Love.” Like the song they co-wrote and released back in February, the video resonates in a familiar way — like kismet. Or successfully devouring a Popsicle before it melts at the cost of freezing your teeth.

Featuring over 40 hand-cut puppets, an overhead projector and transparency paper, the clip finds its filmmakers using the contrast between light, black, and white to blur the lines of ocean and sky. The puppets loosely resemble illustrations from a Shel Silverstein story, with two primary characters that live in two different worlds who can never be together, except for when they skinny dip into the sea of love. When they finally unite, a series of hand-drawn animations brilliantly unfurl like something out of Coraline.

Donning smiles and Stetsons, Langhorne Slim and co. are hitting the festival circuit this summer, recently sharing the Ryman Auditorium stage at Dylan Fest with Kacey Musgraves, Kurt Vile and more in celebration of Bob Dylan’s 75th birthday. They’ll join Andrews at the Newport Folk Festival next month.
