Coming hot on the heels of her swaggering Number One debut single, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” Kelsea Ballerini’s latest video, for the flirty new hit, “Dibs,” shows the 22-year-old having some fairgrounds-based fun, while also taking command of the concert stage. But the singer-songwriter, who penned the tune with Josh Kerr, Ryan Griffin and Jason Duke, admits the songs are less an expression of who she is and more a reminder to be the person that the empowering lyrics reflect.
“I’m so weird and quirky, and painfully awkward sometimes,” Ballerini tells Rolling Stone Country. “I tell people, ‘I sing these songs not because I’m confident but because I have to remind myself to be.’ That’s why it’s cool for me to sing them, because it’s not like a preaching thing — I have to remind me.”
Ballerini will wrap the Dan + Shay Just the Right Kind of Crazy tour this weekend and heads to the CMA Awards in Nashville on November 4th, with two nominations, for Female Vocalist and New Artist of the Year.
