See Keith Urban’s Stunning ‘Blue Ain’t Your Color’ on the Grand Ole Opry

Singer-guitarist performed his multi-week Number One ballad during an August appearance on Nashville’s most famous stage

It was the best kind of blue Christmas for Keith Urban, who spent his winter holidays at the top of Billboard’s Hot Country chart with “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” the slow-motion sock-hop ballad from Urban’s Ripcord. The song hit Number One just before Thanksgiving, knocking Kenny Chesney’s “Setting the World on Fire” off the throne with its woozy waltz. More than two months later, the song is still king.

This new video from the Grand Ole Opry finds Urban and company performing the song before its chart reign, however, with the band running through “Blue Ain’t Your Color” during an August appearance on the famous stage. Bandmates Jerry Flowers and Danny Rader flood the chorus with thick harmonies, but the star of the show is Urban himself. From the smooth vocal delivery to the mid-song guitar solo, Urban is cool, calm and collected, never letting the song’s low-simmering strut turn into a boil. “Blue Ain’t Your Color” is all about restraint, after all.

The song actually hit Number One on all four of the Billboard country charts: Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay, Country Digital Song Sales and Country Streaming Songs. Such a feat has only been achieved by two other songs: Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ It Down” and Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again.”
