See Keith Urban, Vince Gill and Chris Stapleton’s Breezy ‘Blue’ Jam

Guitar slingers team for an extended version of “Blue Ain’t Your Color” during Country Radio Seminar

Country Radio Seminar, the annual gathering of radio-industry pros, is currently underway in Nashville with special appearances from country superstars, many of whom pop up in unexpected places throughout the event. While the seminar’s agenda is fine-tuned to all things country music, three of the genres most adventurous songwriters and performers – Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton and Vince Gill – injected the proceedings with a heavy dose of blues guitar in an extended jam on Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color.” The special appearance took place Thursday at the Universal Music Group lunch performance at the Ryman Auditorium.

One of the few songs on Urban’s Grammy-nominated Ripcord LP not written by the artist, “Blue Ain’t Your Color” was penned by Steven Lee Olsen, Hillary Lindsey and Clint Lagerberg. Urban tells Rolling Stone Country, “[It] is a song that I felt immediately. It’s just magic. If those songwriters could do it, they would write a song like that every day, of course. Craft and skill only come so far; the rest is pure magic.”

Urban is nominated for seven ACM awards, with “Blue Ain’t Your Color” earning nods for Single and Song of the Year and the singer capturing his first Entertainer of the Year nomination since 2010. Chris Stapleton is also a multiple nominee, up for Male Vocalist, Song (“Tennessee Whiskey”) and Video of the Year (“Fire Away”).

The 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley, air Sunday, April 2nd, at 8 on CBS, live from Las Vegas.
