See Keith Urban, Frankie Ballard Swap Licks on Georgia Satellites Cover

Put Keith Urban and Frankie Ballard together onstage and what do you get? How about a five-minute guitar jam on a classic Georgia Satellites song. On Saturday night that’s just what fans got when Ballard joined Urban during his headlining set at the Great Jones County Fair in Monticello, Iowa, as captured by a video posted by Urban on YouTube today.
Ballard had played the opening set for Urban earlier in the night before joining the Grammy-winning Australian to sing the Georgia Satellites’ 1986 Southern rock hit, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself.” Not that there was all that much singing done: The pair handled only two of the verses, aided in their efforts by lyrics sheets duct taped to the stage, and left the rest to their guitars.
Fittingly for a county fair finale, there were still plenty of fireworks, as Urban and Ballard not only traded solos back and forth but even swapped out each other’s guitars midway through the song. Two acknowledged guitars virtuosos, they alternated between Chuck Berry riffing and Lynyrd Skynyrd-style dual solos as the fans screamed their approval. Urban took to Twitter Monday morning where he shared a condensed version of the performance. “Trading licks AND rides with @FrankieBallard – dude’s a bad ass!!!” he wrote.
Urban is currently on the road for his Ripcord World Tour that kicked off in 2016, with his next stop coming Wednesday, July 26th at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, California. Ballard, meanwhile, heads north to play the Bluewater Borderfest in Sarnia, Canada on Friday, July 28th.
