Country superstar closes Tampa show with tearful “One”

Keith Urban’s Ripcord World Tour continued this weekend with a performance at Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, but toward the end of the two-hour-plus show, the country superstar’s thoughts turned to a town some 95 miles away.

Noting that several fans had traveled from Orlando to attend his show, the “Break on Me” singer stopped to pay tribute to the victims of last weekend’s mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in that city, which left 49 people dead and more than 50 injured. In tribute to the victims and their families, Urban performed a piercing version of U2’s 1992 classic, “One.”

“Although I didn’t know anybody in that horrific incident, I did, because they’re just guys and girls, brothers and sisters,” Urban said. “They had dreams, hopes, plans, just like every one of us. So, I know them like I know you guys.”

Urban’s tribute is just the latest in an outpouring of support from the country-music community. On June 21st, a benefit concert featuring Tyler Farr, Maddie and Tae and Billy Currington, among others, will be held in Orlando.
