See Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss’ Sublime ‘My Dixie Darlin” at the Opry

Singers share the Grand Ole Opry stage to perform a slowed-down version of old Carter Family tune

Jamey Johnson and Alison Krauss proved to be ideal singing partners when they recorded “Make the World Go Away” for Johnson’s 2012 album Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran. Recently the pair performed an intimate version of the Carter Family classic “My Dixie Darlin'” at the Grand Ole Opry.

Their version was a stylistic departure from the exuberant original, the pair trading the Carter Family’s hand claps and foot stomps for a somber, stripped-down arrangement of the Southern-fried love song. Johnson handles lead vocal duties, will Krauss offers gentle harmonies and fiddle flourishes throughout.

Both Johnson and Krauss will perform at the Randy Travis tribute concert – “1 Night. 1 Place. 1 Time: A Heroes and Friends Tribute to Randy Travis” – in Nashville tonight. They recently shared the stage at Rufus and Martha Wainwright’s Noel Nights in December, performing “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”

Krauss’ new solo album Windy City, which includes an appearance by Johnson, is out February 17th.
