See Frankie Ballard’s Dreamy Video for ‘It All Started With a Beer’
Hot on the heels of three consecutive Number One hits at country radio, Frankie Ballard has unveiled the first taste of his upcoming third LP, with the music video for the album’s first single, “It All Started With a Beer.” But instead of setting the scene in a bar, Ballard shot the clip for the smooth, romantic ballad right where he is most at home: the studio.
“It All Started With a Beer” was penned by the Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston, who co-wrote Ballard’s 2014 chart-topper about another potent potable, “Sunshine & Whiskey.” He’s also the co-writer of the Number One hits “Beachin’,” for Jake Owen, “Don’t It,” by Billy Currington, and Keith Urban’s “You Gonna Fly,” among others.
In a sonic nod to the mellow Seventies, Ballard is backed by electric piano and guitar, as he recalls a memorable first encounter, singing, “We weren’t shootin’ no whiskey, just shootin’ the shhhh/I paid the tab, we walked out the door, I remember thinkin’ this is it.”
In advance of recording his as-yet-untitled third album, Ballard noted he was energized and ready to shake things up a bit.

“We’re going off-campus,” he told Rolling Stone Country last March, detailing a plan to record the album at the Sonic Ranch studio, outside El Paso, Texas. “This follow-up to Sunshine & Whiskey is very important to my career, so at a time like this to do something weird is risky. But it makes me feel alive, man! We’re going to go in with nothing and we’re going to come out with an album. And that’s the way all my favorite albums were made. You slept at the studio — we’re going to do that. If we feel like putting down some guitars at two in the morning, we will.”
A release date for the album, the follow-up to 2014’s Sunshine & Whiskey, has yet to be announced.
