See Eric Church, Keith Urban’s Surprise Performance of ‘Record Year’

Keith Urban’s Ripcord World Tour made a memorable landing in Music City Friday night as the singer-guitarist offered up hit after hit spanning his entire catalog, from 1999’s “Where the Blacktop Ends,” to his most recent Number One, “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”

Urban’s flashy yet intimate set followed show openers Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris, both of whom were called on to join Urban later. Eldredge assisted on a lighthearted version of “Somebody Like You,” and Morris stepped in to take Miranda Lambert’s part on the nostalgic duet “We Were Us.” Urban also paid tribute to the recent passing of Leonard Cohen with a snippet of the Canadian songwriting icon’s “Hallelujah.”

But it was Eric Church, Urban’s longtime friend, collaborator and Universal Music Group labelmate, who had the honor of closing the show. Urban teased a surprise guest earlier in the evening, and it came to fruition when Church appeared in a leather bomber jacket and his requisite shades to sing his own Number One hit “Record Year,” with Urban chiming in on harmony vocals.

The pair then roused the crowd one final time with “Raise ‘Em Up,” their Number One duet off Urban’s Fuse album.

Urban, Eldredge and Morris make their next stops on the Ripcord World Tour in Bloomington, Indiana, tonight and Youngstown, Ohio, on Sunday.
