See Craig Campbell’s Gripping Cover of Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’
Dressed up in his “best aviator glory,” Craig Campbell strums his way through a slow, acoustic version of Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away,” released yesterday morning as part of his ongoing Woman Cover Wednesday series.
Campbell kicked off his weekly string of YouTube covers in April. Since then, he’s added twang and testosterone to songs originally recorded by Maren Morris, Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper and others, often reaching far beyond the world of country music for his source material. In the video below, he treats “Take My Breath Away” like a dramatic country ballad, replacing the synthesizers and gated percussion with a lone acoustic guitar. As for the sunglasses. . .well, Goose would’ve been proud.
Originally released as the second single from Top Gun‘s best-selling soundtrack, “Take My Breath Away” doubles as a clever song choice for the 2016 election week, harking back to a level of Reagan-era patriotism and Cold War bravado. Meanwhile, Campbell kicks off the final leg of his 2016 tour dates this weekend, with a November 13th show at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.
