See Cody Johnson’s Soulful George Strait Cover

Independent Texas star honors King George with acoustic “You Look So Good in Love”

Indie country trailblazer Cody Johnson is the latest Texan to bow to George Strait with an admiring cover, part of a campaign leading up to the November 18th release of Strait Out of the Box: Part 2.

The 56-track box set covers the last 20 years of King George’s career (plus two new songs), so select artists have been asked to sing one of their favorite Strait hits from that period. Johnson – who hit Number Two on the Billboard Country Albums chart this summer with his sixth album Gotta Be Me despite a complete lack of traditional promotion – drew the task of selecting a tune that made its biggest impact in the month of October.

“My favorite has to be ‘You Look So Good in Love,'” he says about the classic, regretful ballad. “Here’s to you, George.”

Filmed at Johnson’s home in Texas while also shooting a music video for “With You I Am,” the singer-songwriter and former rodeo champ sings the tune in solo-acoustic style, sitting outside and surrounded by a forest. Sporting a white hat, starched-white shirt and a well-loved guitar covered in autographs, Johnson delivers the tune in honest, heartbroken fashion – just like a real-life cowboy taking a break along his lonely trail.

Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 arrives exclusively in Walmart stores on November 18th. Johnson is currently on tour with dates throughout the Southwest and along the West Coast scheduled through late December.
