When Rolling Stone Country caught up with Cassadee Pope last month, her new video for “Summer” wasn’t out yet and she was chomping at the bit for people to see it. “The video is very bold and daring,” she hinted, with a bit of a mischievous grin. “It shows a very different side of me.”
And a whole lot more of her. . . literally. Filmed in Clearwater Beach, Florida, the steamy clip shows a lot of skin, as Pope and her leading man play out the steamy lyrics to her new single. Whether on the beach, on the boardwalk or behind closed doors, the two can’t keep their hands off each other.
Pope co-wrote “Summer” with Kelly Archer and Emily Shackelton and says it was an easy pick for the title track to her new EP.
“Everybody can relate to a summer romance that was amazing and powerful but that ended pretty quickly and you have to move on,” she says. “The thing that I love about this song is that we didn’t create a conflict when we were writing it. This isn’t about a cheater or him doing something wrong or leaving without any say. . . It’s just a summer romance that has to end at some point.”
Pope’s four-song Summer EP is out now.
