Last month, Carrie Underwood wowed an intimate audience in Atlanta with a surprise performance at the Variety Playhouse. With nine of her biggest hits, including current single “Smoke Break,” the CMA Awards co-host’s up-close-and-personal set would qualify as a one-time-only experience — had the concert not been filmed for CMT Instant Jam. The episode airs October 17th at 10 p.m. ET on CMT, and a rousing performance of “Undo It” premieres today on Rolling Stone Country.
Since her American Idol victory in 2005, Underwood has dominated country radio, with 14 Number One singles and albums that have topped both the country and pop charts. Just ahead of co-hosting the live CMA Awards telecast with Brad Paisley on November 4th, Underwood will release her fifth studio LP, Storyteller. The album drops in the middle of a week that finds the superstar dominating programming at CMT — with both Instant Jam and a special “Carrie Takeover.”
A week after the October 17th premiere of Instant Jam, CMT will devote a whole weekend to Underwood. She’ll co-host CMT Hot 20 Countdown on Saturday, October 24th, at 9:00 a.m. ET, counting down the week’s videos with host Cody Alan and looking back at some of her own videos. The network will also resurrect Underwood’s 2012 CMT Crossroads special with Steven Tyler, which became the network’s top-rated episode in 10 years, on October 24th at noon, ET/PT. The dynamic Instant Jam installment, which features hits like “Before He Cheats,” “Blown Away” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel” will also encore that weekend.
Storyteller is set for release on Friday, October 23rd, and expectations are high. All of Underwood previous LPs have debuted at Number One on the country chart, with two of them also topping the multi-genre Billboard 200.
