See Carrie Underwood Sing Vengeful ‘Church Bells’ at the Opry

Country superstar once again delivers a murder tale fit for the movie screen

Carrie Underwood is clearly a fan of mortal revenge — at least in the fictional sense. The country music powerhouse kills off a cheater in “Two Black Cadillacs,” an abusive father in “Blown Away,” a blackmailer in “Choctaw County Affair” and an abusive husband in her latest hit, “Church Bells.”

Bells ring throughout the soaring tune in three very different scenarios: first for the wedding of a penniless beauty and rich oil man; next as the woman sits in church with dark sunglasses covering bruises left by her abusive husband; and lastly as she lays him to rest — after slipping something into his Tennessee whiskey “that no law man was ever gonna find.” Just like with her other murder ballads, Underwood delivers the tune with gritty, unapologetic conviction, and hits unearthly notes doing so.

Grand Ole Opry member for six years now, Carrie Underwood recently brought her cinematic “Church Bells” to the coveted stage. Watch the exclusive premiere of her captivating performance above.
