Carrie Underwood woke up early this morning, celebrating the release of her newest album, Storyteller, with a live performance on The Today Show.
Hitting the outdoor stage not long after sunrise, Underwood played a short, four-song set that balanced older favorites like “Before He Cheats” with cuts from the new album. Tossed into the mix was “Choctaw County Affair,” a sly, slinky song that doubles as both crime caper and courtroom drama. Written by Jason White — the same Nashville-area musician who penned Tim McGraw’s “Red Ragtop” — the song is one of the most southern-sounding tracks on Storyteller, an album that otherwise pushes Underwood closer toward the pop-leaning sound of Taylor Swift’s Red.
Watch today’s live performance of “Choctaw County Affair” — featuring an eight-piece band, a coffee-fueled Underwood and an entire block’s worth of fans who showed up during the early-a.m. hours to secure a spot in line — above.
