Curly-haired country sweetheart Cam might be best known for the dark and foreboding dream narrative of her breakout hit “Burning House,” but the California native isn’t always so gloomy – even when the song title seems to call for it.
In a new CMT Next Women of Country Live performance, Cam takes a breakup in stride on “Half Broke Heart,” a danceable groover from her debut album, Untamed (and also her earlier EP Welcome to Cam Country). With bigger-picture lyrics about how the end of any relationship hurts – even a casual one – the idea seems to scream for a down-in-the-dumps delivery, but instead Cam sings it with her signature sunny disposition. . . and a dash of sassy humor for good measure.
Cam is currently on the road on Dierks Bentley’s Somewhere On a Beach tour, along with Randy Houser and newcomer Tucker Beathard. Their next stop will be Friday, August 12th at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis. Tonight (August 10th) she takes the stage at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colo., with Eric Church.
