Blake Shelton’s team member Sundance Head may have edged out the competition last night to become the winner of the 11 season of NBC’s The Voice, but finalists Billy Gilman, Josh Gallagher and Wé McDonald presented him with tough competition at every turn. Though it wasn’t Gallagher’s night to win, the Team Adam member still notched a season highlight when was joined by country singer Cam to perform her chart-topping hit “Burning House.”
The mournful hit from Cam’s 2015 album Untamed came to life in the subtle production touches – dim lights, atmospheric fog, and stirring orchestral accompaniment. A quiet tune in its original form, “Burning House” transformed into a full-blown romantic ballad with the palpable onstage connection between Cam and Gallagher, who effortlessly riffed their way through the final stretch at an arm’s length from one another. During the episode, Gallagher also reaffirmed his pop country credentials by performing Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” with fellow contestants previously voted off the show.
The Voice returns to NBC in February with Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys returning as coaches. Gwen Stefani will replace Miley Cyrus as season 12’s fourth coach.
