See Brothers Osborne’s Gritty ’21 Summer’ Video
Brothers Osborne mix gritty, back-alley imagery with warm-and-fuzzy romantic nostalgia in their new video for “21 Summer,” the duo’s third single from their debut album Pawn Shop. Co-written by duo members TJ and John Osborne with veteran hit maker Craig Wiseman, the track describes a coming of age story and a youthful summer that lingers in the memory, but the video presents it with a surprisingly dark twist.
Featuring a skinny young bar back, a dark haired beauty and a classic Cadillac, memories of a first true love come flooding back as the Brothers perform the moody and melodic Jay Joyce-produced tune in a hazy pool hall. It’s a pretty typical storyline of teenage romance at first – driving in circles, finding secluded spots to park, smoking cigarettes and cuddling up in the back seat – but then it becomes clear why the relationship didn’t work out: she’s a prostitute, and even years later hasn’t been able to give it up.
