Brent Cobb performed “Diggin’ Holes” on Conan last night, making his network TV debut less than 48 hours after wrapping up a sold-out European tour in Amsterdam.
“This is a different version of the song as you will see!” he promised in a pre-show tweet, sent from the studio floor during the middle of soundcheck. He delivered on that promise several hours later, kicking off “Diggin’ Holes” – a short, sweet highlight from last year’s Shine On Rainy Day – with an entire verse of dense, three-part a cappella. The layered harmonies continued throughout the rest of the performance, with the voices of bassist J Kott and guitarist Mike Harris thickening up the song’s breezy bounce.
Now back in the U.S., Brent Cobb will take a two-week sabbatical before hitting the road once again. This time, he’ll be bouncing between two of the biggest summertime tours in country music, headlining a handful of his own gigs between opening slots on Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show – whose rotating lineup also features Margo Price, Marty Stuart and Brothers Osborne – and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s joint Soul2Soul Tour. Along the way, he’ll compete for the honor of Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2017 Americana Awards.
