A little over three minutes into an otherwise flawless performance of his latest single “Country Nation” last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Brad Paisley added a little comedy himself — albeit unintentionally. The singer-guitarist flubbed a line in the song’s chorus, singing what sounded like “we drink all that air on Siday night.” Most viewers probably wouldn’t have taken notice had the quick-witted performer not cracked a wry smile after doing so, and later brought it to the attention of his millions of Twitter followers.
On Thursday evening, in advance of the show, Paisley tweeted, “Ha-Ok, 1 of y’all figure out what the hell the lyrics I sang on the last chorus of countrynation were on @fallontonight. I, uh,improvised.”
Paisley had a chance to redeem himself just a few hours later, when he appeared on NBC’s Today as part of their long-running summer concert series. The guitar-slinging superstar joked that he isn’t much of a morning person, unless he’s been up since the previous day, telling the hosts, “Right now, I’m still considering this Thursday night.”
Paisley’s upcoming Country Nation College Tour, which he’s launching on the campus of Virginia Tech Sunday (September 6th), goes hand-in-hand with his “Country Nation” music video, parts of which were filmed on the field at Nashville’s Vanderbilt Stadium. The anthem for America’s working men and women also serves as a tribute to college football teams that are back in action as of this weekend. The clip features an array of team mascots working on cars, serving tea and making deliveries. There’s also a cameo from the entertainer’s own personal mascot, Bobblehead Brad.
Spoiler alert: Paisley’s Today show appearance, which also included a performance of the recent single “Crushin’ It,” went off without a hitch.
