On last night’s episode of The Voice, Blake Shelton left his coaches’ chair to perform his new single “A Guy with a Girl.” Taken from his latest album If I’m Honest, the song strikes a quintessentially Shelton balance between flirtatious and pensive, with just a hint of arena rock.
Dressed up – relatively speaking – in a black jacket, vest, tie, and jeans, the notoriously droll coach curbed his joking demeanor to give a particularly soulful rendition of the song, written by Ashley Gorley and Bryan Simpson. And with the help of a female backing vocalist, Shelton had no trouble rousing the crowd with his confident singing and contagious energy.
Wrapping up his performance with a bit of playful air guitar, Shelton certainly gave the audience a much-needed reprieve from the intensity of The Voice‘s semifinals. Thankfully for country music fans, tonight’s elimination left all three of the remaining country-related acts on the stage as Billy Gilman, Sundance Head, and Josh Gallagher all advanced to the final four, along with 17-year-old Wé McDonald.
Tune in next Monday, December 12th, at 8 p.m. ET for part 1 of The Voice season 11 finale.
Shelton will return to the stage in 2017 for the Doin’ It to Country Songs Tour, beginning February 16th in Bakersfield, California.
